'What mattresses do hotels use?' Have you ever caught yourself typing that question into Google upon returning from a vacation, so smitten by the sheer bliss of a hotel bed that you wished you could bring it home with you? Well, it turns out you can! There’s a chance your favorite hotel has an online store where you can purchase its exclusive mattresses, pillows, bedding, and other touches to make every night feel like a 5-star getaway.

From the Marriott to the Mandarin Oriental, we’re exposing the truth behind the best mattresses used at 10 world-class hotels, and divulging how you can secure any of these luxury beds for yourself.

Meanwhile, if you’re itching to know why hotel beds are so sinfully comfortable – and want to learn how to recreate that magic in your own bedroom – we’ll be sharing all the details on that, too.

But for now, let’s take a trip to some of the most prestigious hotels and find out what’s under their covers.

Members-only hotspot Soho House worked with UK sleep brand Hypnos to create a mattress fit for its VIPs. This medium-firm bed boasts over 1,600 pocket springs, body-hugging high-density foam, chrome-plated vents to keep air flowing, and Soho House-branded ticking that’s been treated to fend off germs, allergens, and bed bugs.

Fortunately, you don’t need to be a member to buy the Soho House x Hypnos Mattress from Soho Home, although those who are on the inside will enjoy a nice discount. If access to this exclusive hotel eludes you, kitting your home out with Soho House’s on-trend furniture and decor might be the next best thing.

Sleep at a Marriott and you’ll be embraced by a Marriott Bed, a 9-inch mattress with high-density soy-based foam plus a cozy quilted pillow top. For something more majestic, there’s a loftier 13-inch version packed with pocket springs and reinforced edges so you won’t tumble overboard, no matter how much you writhe about in your sleep.

Marriott partners with major sleep brands like Simmons Beautyrest and Jamison to create its legendary mattresses. Shop Marriot sells the Marriott Bed along with other touches like pillows, linens, and duvets so you can replicate Marriott’s signature comfort at home.

Rtiz-Carlton tapped luxury sleep brand Stearns & Foster to manufacture its famous Ritz-Carlton Bed exclusively for the hotel. This majestic 13.5-inch hybrid is designed to align your spine, relieve joint pressure, and keep night sweats at bay courtesy of its cushy pillow top, breathable comfort foam, and individually-wrapped coils.

Visit the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Shop to purchase your own Ritz-Carlton Bed. If you want to go all-in on the experience, add the Ritz’s lusciously plush pillows and lavish bedding to your cart, too. You’ll just need to be patient – this handcrafted mattress is made to order so delivery can take up to 10 weeks. (We say it’s worth the wait.)

In 2014, Four Seasons joined forces with Simmons to create the Four Seasons Signature Mattress, which allows guests to select how firm or soft they’d like their bed to be – a first for the hospitality industry at the time. It comes in three mattress firmness levels (soft, firm, or medium) and boasts multiple foam layers, pocket coils, targeted lower back support, and an antimicrobial cover to keep things fresh.

Head over to Four Seasons at Home, the hotel's online store, to snag your Signature Mattress in your desired firmness. Feeling fancy? Pick up some of the hotel’s luxurious linens, duvets, and pillows and you’ll be living that Four Seasons suite life every day.

Simmons is the brand behind the Heavenly Bed, a mainstay of Westin hotels for nearly 25 years. (It was developed in 1999 after more than a year of market research.) This 13-inch hybrid mattress has a quilted foam pillow top sitting over dual slabs of foam followed by a layer of individually-wrapped coils for a balance of pressure relief, support, and cooling.

You can buy a Heavenly Mattress at Shop Westin – or find it at Pottery Barn, where it’s more likely to be sold at a discount. You can also grab some sheets, duvets, pillows, and blankets if you’re totally committed to recreating the Westin vibe. There’s even a handy interactive guide that walks you through the entire process of dressing your bed the Westin way.

The Sofitel Bed is exclusive to this glamorous French hotel chain. It’s an 11-inch mattress that merges cozy vibes with incredible stability – featuring a pillow top, reinforced edges, and an ergonomic design for support and relief in all of the right places. If you crave cloud-like softness, a Sofitel Featherbed mattress topper will fluff the medium-firm Sofitel Bed right up.

Is the thought of owning a Sofitel Bed making you exclaim oui? You're in luck – the Sofitel Boutique sells the Sofitel Bed along with an optional Featherbed topper. Don’t forget to enhance your sleep space with some elegant French-inspired bedding in the process.

Book a room at any of Kimpton’s 75-plus locations around the globe and you'll be treated to the comfort of a Kimpton Bed, made by Sealy. This 13-inch hybrid mattress features high-density gel memory foam, individually-wrapped coils, motion-isolating insulation (couples rejoice!), and pressure-relieving inlays for your back and legs. Topping it all off is a cooling antimicrobial cover so you don’t wake up sweaty or sniffly.

Inspired to bring some of that Kimpton magic home? Pop over to the Kimpton Style store to buy a Kimpton Bed plus the accompanying linens and pillows. And hey, while you're at it, treat your fur baby to an adorable Kimpton dog robe.

Esteemed guests at the prestigious Mandarin Oriental will rest their travel-weary bodies on a meticulously-designed mattress from Cottonsafe, a UK-based sleep brand known for its commitment to natural bedding without harmful chemicals. This sumptuous 14-inch hybrid is made of pocket springs, gel-infused cooling foam, and a pillow top. Silver-infused fibers will ward off bacteria, mold, and other microscopic undesirables.

M.O. Shop sells the Mandarin Oriental Mattress for those who want to bring luxurious, sustainable slumber into their homes. Dress it in any of Mandarin Oriental's signature sheet sets for an authentic touch. If the medium feel isn’t to your liking, add some softness with a Mandarin Oriental mattress topper or featherbed.

Serta is one brand behind the comfy beds found at Hilton hotels. Its Hilton Bed stands out for its reinforced coil support and internal structure engineered to prevent sagging and promote impeccable spinal alignment. The cozy pillow top is crafted to enhance circulation for refreshing, rejuvenating slumbers. Visit Hilton to Home to purchase your own Hilton Bed plus the accompanying sheets and pillows.

But that’s not all. Sealy Posturepedic has a Hilton Mattress Collection tailored specifically for various Hilton properties. The Paradigm 2.0 by Hilton, made for Hilton Hotels and Resorts, is a cooling mattress with foam comfort layers and responsive open coils. However, Hilton’s Sealy-made mattresses don’t appear to be available for purchase by the general public.

Nowadays, many hotel chains have taken to selling their exclusive bedding online, and you can buy directly through their websites. These are premium mattresses compared to your standard beds-in-a-box so they’re not the cheapest option out there, especially if you opt to purchase the complementary comforter or duvet, linens, and pillows. However, some hotels will allow you to apply rewards points towards your purchase so you can save money that way.

Can’t afford an official hotel mattress? There are several direct-to-consumer alternatives and affordable mattresses that emulate hotel quality at a fraction of the cost of brands like Saatva, WinkBed, Helix, and DreamCloud. Going this route comes with the added perks of extended at-home trial periods, free delivery, and long-lasting warranties – benefits that aren’t always included when buying a mattress right from a hotel.

Hotels know that a comfortable bed ranks high on the list of must-have amenities – a sanctuary where travelers can fully recharge after a long day of sightseeing or traveling. Plenty of research and testing goes into crafting a mattress that’ll turn first-time guests into loyal patrons. (For example, Westin’s research and development team tried 50 distinct hotel mattresses before the Heavenly Bed was born.) This emphasis on luxury comfort is why many hotels work with Serta, Sealy, and other trusted names in the mattress business.

There’s also a psychological component. Hotels employ what’s known as the halo effect to instill a sense of serenity, comfort, and relaxation in their guests as they enter the room. Dimming the lights, using pristine white bed linens, and setting the thermostat to a refreshingly cool temperature are subtle strategies hotels use to make it impossible not to surrender to slumber as soon as your head sinks into a gloriously fluffy pillow.

Achieving a cozy hotel vibe doesn’t necessitate a complete revamp of your sleep setup. Adding a mattress topper or featherbed can enhance the plushness of your current bed. Also consider investing in a set of soft cotton sheets, preferably in white or a light hue. Maintain their crispness either by ironing them or spraying water then smoothing them out with your hands. Don’t forget about the pillows – most hotels opt for down or down-alternative fill for plush, luxurious comfort that will have you drifting off to dreamland in no time.

Comfort is personal, and buying a mattress is not a one size fits all approach. Where one may find the Marriott bed to be the best bed they've ever tried, someone else may have found it too soft. If you've already had a stay at one of these hotels and can confirm you slept well, great, if not, you should do your research first. Just because this resides at the Ritz, doesn't mean you'll experience 5-star sleep.
